VANCE, Anne (Strehlow) 98, of Tucson, died peacefully September 24, 2018, surrounded by loved ones. She was born March 16, 1920 in Peoria, IL to Gladys and Paul Strehlow, the eldest of four children. She graduated from Peoria High School in 1938 where she was editor of the school yearbook, and from DePauw University (IN) in 1942 where she was president of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Anne married her high school sweetheart, Robert M. Vance, of Peoria, August 16, 1942, and they were happily married for 50 years, until his untimely death. She is predeceased by her parents; sister, Sis Hallett; husband; daughter, Valerie Vance-Goff. Anne is survived by her siblings Marie Foster and Paul Strehlow of Illinois; her son, Robert M. Vance, Jr. and daughter, Vicki Vance Stanton (Allen) of Tucson; grandsons, Robert Stanton (Jennifer), Gregory Stanton (Natalie) and Charles Stanton (Chelsea); great-grandchildren, Jack, Luke and Ellie; nieces and nephews, extended family. After moving to Tucson in 1951, Anne was active at St. Philip's in the Hills in the youth programs and Altar Guild; Kappa Alpha Theta Advisory Board; Junior League of Tucson; St. Luke's Board of Visitors, president and Baile chairman; Episcopal Campus Ministry; P.E.O. Chapter B. In 1969, Anne and Bob moved to Berkeley, CA for three years where he attended seminary at Church Divinity School of the Pacific. In 1997, Anne received from CDSP the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. Anne cherished her family and friends and they adored her. She and Bob hosted countless family gatherings and parties. Anne and Bob traveled the world. Bridge and P.E.O. filled her later years. She was the matriarch and our rock. Anne will be remembered for her strong faith and positive outlook on life, the love, kindness and generosity she showed others, and especially, her infectious giggle. The family would like to thank Claudia and her wonderful team of private caregivers, the Cascades of Tucson staff, and Casa de la Luz Hospice for their excellent and tender care of our mother these past two years. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Alban's Church, 3738 Old Sabino Canyon Rd., Tucson, on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. Donations may be made to St. Luke's Home, P.E.O. Chapter B, Salvation Army, or the charity of one's choice. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.
