Beloved Dr. Hildegard Schiefer Compere Bacon, 88, born 3-31-1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away October 2, 2018. She died peacefully in her Oro Valley home with her husband John C Bacon and daughters Cindy Cody and Lynne Garrett at her bedside.
She loved her family dearly as well as her friends at Oro Valley Country Club where she was a member for 31 years The past 22 years of marriage to John Bacon was spent having fun traveling, golfing, bowling, playing tennis, bridge, blackjack and entertaining. She was kind, generous, smart, fun loving.
Hildegard attended Penn State University from 1947-1949. She married Charles Schiefer at age 19 and after 3 kids, got her B.S. Ed at New York State University 1952-1953. She had 2 more children, then attended St. Louis University from 1960-1961 becoming licensed to teach educable mentally retarded children. Her dream of becoming a doctor started to come true when she did her premed requirements in Indianapolis at Indiana University from 1963-1964. Then M.D. degree from Indiana University School of medicine from 1964-1968. She did Internship at St Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis from 1968-1969. From 1969-1971 Dr Hildegard Schiefer was unit leader of geriatric ward at Central State Mental Hospital. From 1971-1987 she was a family practice physician at the Bloomington campus student health center. She retired to Oro Valley, Arizona in 1987 with husband Dr Clinton L Compere to play golf and enjoy winters without snow.
She became a widow in 1991 and spent the next 5 years with wonderful friends and family. She married John Bacon Aug. 21,1996.
Hildegard is survived by husband John Bacon, his daughters, Tamara Ansari and Lisa Wolfinger, as well as her 5 children, Cindy Cody and her husband Dennis Gerwatowski, Lynne Garrett, Eric Schiefer and his wife Diana, Karl Schiefer and his wife Dawn, and Mark Schiefer. She is the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Her spirit will stay alive in the hearts of the family and friends who loved her. Rest In Peace. We will never forget your gentle and incredible life.
